General Electric Senior Tax Operations Manager in Shanghai, China

Role Summary:

The Tax Controller demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area of expertise, be involved in long term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Essential Responsibilities:

This is an expansion of the current Regional Tax Controllership team and will in the short term

focus on the successful integration of the Alstom Power and Renewables entities into GE

processes. In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for specific tax compliance programs and initiatives

  • Support development and recommendation of tax policy and provides technical advice withrespect to areas of assigned responsibilities

  • Ensure tax compliance deadlines are met by facilitating and coordinating efforts acrossmultiple functions to gather required tax-sensitive data

  • Examine transactional workpapers, schedules and reports gathered from business employeesfor accuracy, errors and omissions

  • Work with tax and finance employees to document and support all significant financialreporting positions taken with respect to income tax accounts (including effective tax ratereconciliations), examine and evaluate all deferred tax balances, reconcile income tax returns toledgers, settle quarterly / annual taxes from GE Corporate and perform or monitor reconciliationsof ASC 740 income tax accounts in accordance with GE account reconciliation policy

  • Work with tax and finance employees to forecast taxes for financial planning & analysispurposes and compare actual to forecasted quarterly / annual effective tax rates

  • Coordinate SOX 404 processes and review with respect to tax functions and extends theseprocesses and reviews to serve as integral "real-time" internal audit or tax controllership reviews

  • Develop new processes, systems, reports and schedules to ensure adequacy and function ofall tax compliance programs and initiatives within areas of assigned responsibility

  • Collaborate with GE Power’s Regional Tax Controllership Team to provide training and sharebest practices to finance team members

  • Ensure the implementation of Tax Enterprise Standards


Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Accounting, Finance or Law

  • Experience in taxation or as a tax professional working on multi-national clients' tax-relatedmatters or other GE's businesses

  • Working knowledge of US GAAP ASC 740

  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior experience in taxation is preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant certificate or equivalent professional license is preferred

  • Ability to evaluate complex proposals and anticipate, identify, and resolve tax-related risks andopportunities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • PC proficiency

  • Experience working in a matrix environment

  • Adaptable/flexible: open to change in response to new information, different or unexpectedcircumstances, and/or ability to work in ambiguous situations
