Responsibility

Manages single discipline staff engaged in various engineering projects and assignments. Applies advanced knowledge of technical engineering principles and practices in the identification and understanding of client requirements to manage the development of technical specifications, implementing designs, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers’ solutions. Interfaces with sales and marketing teams to design and deliver client solutions. Manages the development and delivery of training on client applications.

Leads a medium sized technical group and manages team to implement leadership's vision.

Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and to address areas of deficiency.

Influences business-area leadership decisions. Manages financial controls and risk, ensuring operations are executed within established budget.

Identifies issues, problems, and opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Formulates employee and department development plans for transferring technical knowledge.

Coaches and motivates employees; provides guidance and direction on resolving problems and issues.

Delegates and assigns work, considering employee skills and development needs. Advises leaders regarding the identification and resolution of complex problems. Works with employees to establish their individual development and career plans. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.

Base Engine Cross-Subsystem Knowledge - Aware of the basic components, relevant boundary diagrams and tech profile elements for the base engine subsystems and how they impact the operation of the super-system/machine system. Has been involved in the engineering of base engine subsystems, involved in the application of these subsystems to the machine system, and understands the verification and validation processes for these subsystems.

Develops Systems and Processes - Solid understanding of how to develop systems and process. Applies systems and processes to improve and complete work at a team/departmental level. Works to eliminate system and process inefficiencies and roadblocks. Demonstrates consistent use of structured work documentation.

Requirements Engineering - Understands how Requirements Engineering fits into the life cycle of Cummins products and processes. Experienced in the development and maintenance of requirements on Cummins products or process development projects.

Set The Aim - Recognizes when assumptions need to be challenged to ensure effective execution of strategic plans; holds direct reports accountable for setting the aim. Guides leaders on how to create clear and compelling pictures, objectives and implementation plans; ensures key strategies in the organization have appropriate implementation plans and measurements.

Coach& Develop - Recognizes opportunities with direct reports to provide coaching; is constantly on the lookout for development opportunities for direct reports; over time, builds reputation for developing and promoting direct reports. Encourages leaders at all levels to make coaching and developing others a priority; guides leaders on how to effectively coach and develop others.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, University, or equivalent degree in Engineering required. Advanced degree or extended specific training are preferred. Internal candidates should be green belt certified or in the process.

Experience

10 years relevant work experience required, including leadership of a small technical group.

Lead in the development and execution of CEB (Customer Engineering Bulletins) for the system primary interface to the OEM. Owns OEM requirements including duty cycles. Owns the customer schedule. Good understanding of all the OEM interfaces to the Cummins System. Supports OEM or leads where interface competencies are weak.

Lead in helping determine scope of supply between OEM and Cummins.

Lead in OEM cooling requirements and electrified accessories.
